Halloween 2009

The first 3 pics are at the Zoo that my friend Rachel took her to cause I couldn't go. Thanks Rach. The last one is from our ward trunk or treat. I was a witch but I looked awefull in the pic so I am not showing you. I am pretty lame though because this year Elizabeth was our only pumpkin, we didn't carve the pumpkins we had. Lame I know, but I figure I can stretch them til after Thanksgiving. This year was indeed a HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

A Warm Fuzzy

THE SHOE MAN

I showered and shaved............. I adjusted my tie.
I got there and sat.............. In a pew just in time.
Bowing my head in prayer......... As I closed my eyes.
I saw the shoe of the man next to me..... Touching my own. I sighed.
With plenty of room on either side...... I thought, 'Why must our

soles touch?'
It bothered me, his shoe touching mine... But it didn't bother him much.

A prayer began: 'Our Father'............. I thought, 'This man with the shoes.. has no pride.
They're dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!'

'Thank You for blessings,' the prayer went on.
The shoe man said............... a quiet 'Amen.'
I tried to focus on the prayer....... But my thoughts were on his shoes again.
Aren't we supposed to look our best.. When walking through that door?
'Well, this certainly isn't it,' I thought, Glancing toward the floor.
Then the prayer was ended............ And the songs of praise began.
The shoe man was certainly loud...... Sounding proud as he sang.
His voice lifted the rafters......... His hands were raised high.
The Lord could surely hear.. The shoe man's voice from the sky.
It was time for the offering....... And what I threw in was steep.
I watched as the shoe man reached.... Into his pockets so deep.
I saw what was pulled out.......... What the shoe man put in.
Then I heard a soft 'clink' as when silver hits tin.
The sermon really bored me.......... To tears, and that's no lie.
It was the same for the shoe man... For tears fell from his eyes.
At the end of the service...... As is the custom here.
We must greet new visitors.. And show them all good cheer.
But I felt moved somehow............. And wanted to meet the shoe man.
So after the closing prayer........ I reached over and shook his hand.
He was old and his skin was dark..... And his hair was truly a mess.

But I thanked him for coming......... For being our guest.
He said, 'My names' Charlie.......... I'm glad to meet you, my friend.'
There were tears in his eyes....... But he had a large, wide grin.

'Let me explain,' he said......... Wiping tears from his eyes.
'I've been coming here for months.... And you're the first to say 'Hi.''

'I know that my appearance.........'Is not like all the rest.
'But I really do try.................'To always look my best.'
'I always clean and polish my shoes..'Before my very long walk.
'But by the time I get here.........'They're dirty and dusty, like chalk.'

My heart filled with pain............ and I swallowed to hide my tears.
As he continued to apologize......... For daring to sit so near.
He said, 'When I get here...........'I know I must look a sight.
'But I thought if I could touch you..'Then maybe our souls might unite.'

I was silent for a moment............ Knowing whatever was said
Would pale in comparison... I spoke from my heart, not my head.
'Oh, you've touched me,' I said......'And taught me, in part;
'That the best of any man............'Is what is found in his heart.'
The rest, I thought,................ This shoe man will never know.
Like just how thankful I really am... That his dirty old shoe touched my soul.
You are special to me and you have made a difference in my life.
I respect you, and truly cherish you.

Elizabeths First Birthday

Elizabeth first birthday was a success thanks to all of our family and friends for there support and help. Jenny will get on here soon for the play by play. Here I am ready to give a caption to the pictures. First I just have to admit that neither Todd nor I decorated her cake. We made and frosted them and even made and colored the fondant, which was such a sticky mess. I give props to Liz and all those Betty home Crokers out there who do it themselves all the time.

She was sort of dressed like Alice. It got cold though so on went the sweatshirt. The balloons were a highlight of hers.

Here she is opening her gifts which her cousins did most of the work.

On the right, she is eating her cake and loving every bite. The top layer, which she ate half of, was a spice cake. The middle layer was a yellow sour cream, and the bottom was chocolate. The sippy cup she is holding was her favorite gift.

Don't forget the Cheshire cat thanks to my friend Rachel who with her artistic ability saved me a lot of ridicule and humiliation. Isn't it awesome? It was one of 3 games that were played. Along with mad hatter musical chairs, Croquet, and The Queen says. Pretty much the last two games were forgotten because of time. It was a late night for all but tons of fun!

The cake in all its three tiere glory. Great job Heather and Thanks again. It rocked! The snow globe came with quite the price thanks to Grandma and Grandpa's blood sweat and tears. We loved it Thanks.

Some Summer Highlights

These are just a few of the things Elizabeth has been 'up to' over the summer thus far.
Getting into all of Grandma's little condiment packets in the fridge is the latest craze.
She has learned to crawl over the course of our 3 month stay in SLC as well as mounting
the stairs. Coming back down however, is another story. She is quite the curious little lady
and mom has found out along the way that grass is our arch nemesis. She is quite allergic
to it, breaks out in a rash everywhere. Needless to say, the two of us did not get a lot of
sleep last night.

With her cousin Lindsay, who absolutely adores Elle and never leaves her side. In this photo we are at the 24th of July Parade and they are taking a break from the heat.

One 'Bright' Easter Day

The Liljenquist Family Photo
Easter in St. George of 2009
The Grandkid photo is my favorite as you can plainly see why.

I don't think it could have been sunnier for this blessed event. It was so sunny in fact, that the suns brightness was nullified next to my extremely pasty white legs.
Whose idea was it to put miss 'illuminate' in the front row for all innocent viewers to be blinded.

Fasten your seat belts kids & don't forget the safety eye ware!

Home for Spring Break!

Just a highlight of our visit to good ol' Salt Lake. Elizabeth was a total trooper on the long car ride to and from El Paso (what can I say she is one awesome little cutie). I am so glad that she isn't like her mom, unphotogenic for the camera. Doesn't she have the cutest friend in the top photo, Lilly Brog, Liz we have the most freaking Awesome kids ever! My favorite is the last one with the Angel Moroni just waving 'Hi' to everyone. She is fascinated with her hands and the many different movements they can make.

I am a lame Blogger!

This was our New Years eve party. Elizabeth looks good in a plastic crown huh? I am a slacker and need to take pictures of her with our camera instead of my phone so it is easier to transfer the photos. Recent Updates: She is growing like gangbusters and needs to stop that. We are due for her cardiologist check-up in March so cross your fingers that it will be our last visit. Todd is busy in school and I am just playin mom 24/7 which I love. We are going to a Superbowl party at our friends for something different this weekend.
